Lakes and ponds from idyllic biotopes can turn into malodorous mud pools. These are complex ecosystems in which many factors are involved. The contribution of Terra Biosa to the water allows the composition of microorganisms in the water to vary. Anaerobic microorganisms, which produce toxic substances such as hydrogen sulfide and methane, find poor living conditions. This activates a process that favors beneficial bacteria and fungi and, therefore, an important part of regenerating the natural balance in which fish and plants can grow.

Other information:

Lakes and ponds from idyllic biotopes can turn into malodorous mud pools. Responsible for this is often the excessive supply of nutrients, which, being in excess of the needs of plants, generates the basis for the abnormal growth of algae. Lakes and ponds are complex ecosystems in which many factors are involved. Therefore, before cleaning, it is important to decide how to combine the different factors and plan the cleaning procedure itself. Circumstances that play a role, for example, are:

    • nutrient supply
      The first question to ask is where do nutrients come from?
      Nutrients may come from drainage ditches, surface water from agricultural areas, or, in the worst case, from the inflow of polluted or unpurified water. The influx of nutrients should be limited or, where possible, stopped. The least that needs to be done is to see if there is a possibility of implementing a simple purification system that will stem the inflow. This can be done, for example, with a simple biological filter or with a filter consisting of a large root zone;

    • Sunlight
      Sunlight stimulates algae growth. A lot of sunlight causes strong algae growth. Conversely, if there is too little light, aquatic plants fail to grow. It would be best to shield the lake on the south side from sunlight and let plenty of light come in from the north side;

    • vegetation
      Around the lake and on the lake shore: the root system of vegetation around the lake and marsh reeds on the shore can help capture nutrients from surrounding areas to prevent them from flowing into the lake. Some marsh plants, such as the marsh reed, at the same time carry oxygen to the lake bottom with their roots. Strong vegetation around the lake requires care in the form of leaf removal; heavy leaf fall from trees and shrubs, in fact, contributes nutrients to the water. This input of organic material, which requires composting, results in oxygen deficiency, as biological decomposition consumes oxygen;

    • fish
      It is good to have fish in the lake, but it is necessary to remember that some species of fish eat daphnia (water fleas). Sometimes plants are also eaten, taking up nutrients and releasing oxygen. Other fish species dig up the bottom of the lake, damaging its vegetation. It is not advisable to have fish such as red leuciscus and common bream in large numbers. To keep the numbers of these fish low, it is necessary to put in predatory fish, such as pike and perch, for example. An alternative would be to keep the number of fish low by catching. If you plan to use predatory fish, beware that many of these species hunt by helping themselves with their visual strength and will find poor environmental conditions if the bottom water is turbid due to algae or floating particles. There should not be so many fish in the lake that you have to feed them, unless it is a pond in which you want to raise fish;

    • the bottom of the pond
      should be compact, as bottom plants are unable to develop roots in the shaky, oxygen-poor bottom;

    • sludge at the bottom
      forms when the oxygen needed to decompose organic material is lacking at the bottom. The microorganisms that should be present to make composting possible are generally aerobic: that is, they use oxygen to live and multiply. If oxygen is lacking, anaerobic microorganisms will preponderate, which are microorganisms that do not utilize oxygen or even tolerate it. Some of these anaerobic microorganisms produce a range of toxic substances, such as, for example, methane, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia;

    • bottom plants
      for various reasons, several plants should grow on the bottom. The plants that grow on the bottom collect oxygen, release oxygen, and their roots help hold the bottom firmly together so that no particles are dislodged to cloud the water.

Bio Reco is available in two versions, Bio Reco 300 and Bio Reco 800, for small or large lakes, ponds, purifiers, etc.
What does Terra Biosa do?
The addition of Terra Biosa to the water allows the composition of microorganisms in the water to vary. Anaerobic microorganisms, which produce toxic substances such as hydrogen sulfide and methane, find poor living conditions. This activates a process that favors beneficial bacteria and fungi and, therefore, an important part of regenerating the natural balance in which fish and plants can grow. Microorganisms have been shown to be effective in nitrate removal. Microorganisms are able to transform nitrate into free nitrogen and oxygen, which are then released into the air. By reducing the nitrogen content in the water, algae growth is prevented. This reduces the content of organic particles in the water, which promotes better visibility on the bottom.
Bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide, methane and ammonia grow in the bottom sludge with poor oxygenation conditions. To eliminate them, it is necessary to create conditions in which they cannot grow. This can be done by creating good oxygenation conditions or by the addition of other anaerobic bacteria that are able to counteract and do not produce undesirable toxic substances. Such bacteria are, for example, lactic acid bacteria and some types of photosynthesis bacteria. Instead, these bacteria produce organic acids, amino acids, vitamins, as well as sugars, carbon dioxide and oxygen. These are all useful components in keeping the pond clean and healthy. As the microorganisms begin to transform the bottom sludge, it slowly begins to deflate and solidify. As soon as the bottom is well compacted, the bottom vegetation will take root, allowing the oxygen-producing vegetation to stabilize, provided the other necessary conditions are in place, such as light, for example. In the course of the transformation of the bottom mud, nutrients are released; for this reason there may be periods when suddenly algae proliferate. It often lasts a short time, but leads to a brownish coloration of the water.

How much Biosa soil is necessary to add?
Normally the dosage is between 1 dl and 1 liter of Terra Biosa per 1000 liters of water. It is not possible to determine the exact amount for individual concrete cases because, as previously explained, it depends on several factors. It is necessary, therefore, to try. You can add Terra Biosa in several ways: a large portion at one time or smaller amounts divided into several times. Normally it is recommended to add small amounts in several times, carefully observing the changes that occur in the pond. This method is prolonged in time but allows at least some direction. Adding a large amount of Terra Biosa at once (1 liter per 1,000 liters of water) usually has quick effects, but is difficult to manage. There are often strong reactions in the form of a large visibility at the bottom, followed by a “chocolate” coloration of the water. This coloration fades and is by no means a sign that something is not right. Rather, the reaction is desirable and is a sign that everything is working properly; one just has to arm oneself with patience and wait for the water to become clear again.

Oxidation – Bio Reco (Biological Recovery / biological regeneration)
To achieve effective water remediation, it is recommended to combine the addition of Terra Biosa with a form of oxidation. Bio Reco is an oxidizing agent that, through the formation of microbubbles, oxygenates water. The principles of Bio Reco are based on the theory of natural movements as described by Viktor Schauberger. According to Schauberger, water molecules move through water in infinite spirals. Clean water has a high energy level and is able to maintain a high concentration of oxygen. When water is polluted, the natural movements of water are reduced, the water loses its vital energy and ability to maintain oxygen concentration, which decreases. Bio Reco is structured to mechanically reproduce natural movements; it is considerably more effective than using traditional oxygenation systems (compressors, etc.).

Bio Reco imparts a natural spiral movement to water, a process that can only be maintained with small amounts of energy. The spirals formed by the movements imprinted on the water suck atmospheric air into the water. Bio Reco transforms this influx of air into millions of microbubbles. The surface development of these millions of air bubbles is enormous, and the surface area of water molecules and oxygen molecules is at its maximum. Bio Reco compared with other oxygenation methods is particularly effective, and the price-performance ratio is optimal.
