Lakes and ponds can transform from idyllic biotopes into foul-smelling mud puddles. These are complex ecosystems, in which many factors are involved. Adding Terra Biosa to the water allows for a change in the composition of microorganisms. Anaerobic microorganisms, which produce toxic substances such as hydrogen sulfide and methane, find poor living conditions. This activates a process that favors beneficial bacteria and fungi, thus playing a key role in regenerating the natural balance in which fish and plants can thrive.

This is often caused by excessive nutrient inputs, which, exceeding the plants' needs, create the basis for abnormal algae growth. Lakes and ponds are complex ecosystems, in which many factors are involved. Therefore, before proceeding with cleaning, it is important to decide how to combine the various factors and plan the cleaning procedure itself. Circumstances that play a role include, for example:

    • nutrient supply
      The first question to ask is: where do nutrients come from? 
      Nutrients can come from drainage channels, surface water from agricultural areas, or, in the worst case, from the inflow of polluted or untreated water. The inflow of nutrients must be limited or, where possible, blocked. The minimum is to consider whether a simple purification system can be implemented to stem the inflow. This could be achieved, for example, with a simple biological filter or a filter consisting of a large root zone;

    • sunlight
      Sunlight stimulates algae growth. A lot of sunlight encourages strong algae growth. Conversely, too little light prevents aquatic plants from growing. The best approach would be to shield the lake from sunlight on the south side and allow plenty of light from the north side.

    • vegetation 
      Around the lake and on the lakeshore: The root system of vegetation around the lake and the reeds on the shore can help capture nutrients from the surrounding areas, preventing their flow into the lake. Some marsh plants, such as the common reed, also transport oxygen to the lakebed with their roots. Strong vegetation around the lake requires maintenance, which involves removing leaves; heavy leaf fall from trees and bushes contributes to polluting the water with nutrients. This addition of organic matter, which requires composting, leads to oxygen depletion, as biological decomposition consumes oxygen.

    • fish 
      It's good to have fish in the lake, but it's important to remember that some fish species feed on daphnia (water fleas). They also sometimes eat plants that absorb nutrients and release oxygen. Other fish species dig into the lake bottom, damaging vegetation. Large numbers of fish such as red roach and common bream are not recommended. To keep these fish numbers low, it's necessary to introduce predatory fish, such as pike and perch. An alternative is to keep the fish numbers low by catching them. If you plan to use predatory fish, be aware that many of these species hunt using their eyesight and will encounter poor environmental conditions if the bottom water is cloudy due to algae or floating particles. The lake shouldn't have so many fish that they need to be fed, unless it's a pond where you intend to raise fish.

If oxygen is lacking, anaerobic microorganisms predominate, which are microorganisms that do not use oxygen or even cannot tolerate it. Some of these anaerobic microorganisms produce a series of toxic substances, such as methane, hydrogen sulfide, and ammonia;

      For various reasons, there should be plenty of plants growing on the bottom. Plants growing on the bottom collect and release oxygen, and their roots help hold the bottom firmly together, preventing particles from being dislodged and clouding the water.

What does Terra Biosa do?
Adding Terra Biosa to the water allows for a change in the composition of microorganisms. Anaerobic microorganisms, which produce toxic substances such as hydrogen sulfide and methane, encounter poor living conditions. This activates a process that favors beneficial bacteria and fungi, thus playing a key role in regenerating the natural balance in which fish and plants can grow. Microorganisms have proven effective in eliminating nitrate. They are able to convert nitrate into free nitrogen and oxygen, which are then released into the air. Reducing the nitrogen content in the water prevents algae growth. This reduces the content of organic particles in the water, which improves visibility at the bottom.
Bacteria that produce hydrogen sulfide, methane, and ammonia grow in poorly oxygenated bottom mud. To eliminate them, it's necessary to create conditions in which they cannot grow. This can be achieved by creating good oxygenation conditions or by introducing other anaerobic bacteria that can counteract them and prevent the production of unwanted toxic substances. Such bacteria include, for example, lactic acid bacteria and certain types of photosynthesis bacteria. These bacteria produce organic acids, amino acids, vitamins, as well as sugars, carbon dioxide, and oxygen. All components that are essential for keeping the pond clean and healthy. When the microorganisms begin to transform the bottom mud, it slowly begins to deflate and solidify. Once the bottom is compacted, bottom vegetation will take root, allowing the oxygen-producing vegetation to establish itself, provided other necessary conditions, such as light, are present. During the transformation of the bottom mud, nutrients are released; For this reason, there may be periods of sudden algae growth. This often lasts only a short time, but causes the water to turn brown. 

How much Terra Biosa do I need to add?
Typically, the dosage ranges from 1 dl to 1 liter of Terra Biosa per 1000 liters of water. It's impossible to determine the exact amount for each specific case because, as previously explained, it depends on several factors. Therefore, it's necessary to experiment. Terra Biosa can be added in several ways: a large portion all at once or smaller amounts divided into several additions. It's generally recommended to add small amounts in several additions, carefully observing the changes in the pond. This method takes longer, but it allows you to at least partially direct the process. Adding a large amount of Terra Biosa all at once (1 liter per 1000 liters of water) generally has rapid effects but is difficult to manage. Strong reactions often occur, such as a high level of visibility on the bottom, followed by a "chocolate" coloration of the water. This coloration fades and is not a sign that something is wrong. In fact, the reaction is desirable and a sign that everything is working properly. you just have to arm yourself with patience and wait for the water to become clear again.

Oxidation - Bio Reco (Biological Recovery / biological regeneration)
For effective water purification, it is recommended to combine the addition of Terra Biosa with a form of oxidation. Bio Reco is an oxidizing agent that oxygenates water by forming microbubbles. The principles of Bio Reco are based on the theory of natural motion, as described by Viktor Schauberger. According to Schauberger, water molecules move in water in infinite spirals. Clean water has a high energy level and is able to maintain a high oxygen concentration. When water is polluted, the water's natural motions are reduced, losing its vital energy and its ability to maintain oxygen concentration, which decreases.
